Interviewed yesterday by a journalist who had never heard of Mao Zedong. Surprising?

Wonderful Women

Women told us that they lacked female role models. There were very few women further up the organisation for them to model themselves on. The women featured in the media tended to be celebrities with very different lives. In addition, women are all so different, it can be difficult to find role models you can really identify with. We thought it would be fun to provide you with lots of role models to consider. You might not identify with everything about a woman but you can find some inspiration in the way she has tackled life and what she has achieved. The women come from different walks of life, backgrounds and professions. They have all made very different life choices but they all have a great story to tell.

We will give you several strands – women from history who have perhaps not had as much fame as they deserved, inspiring women from literature and working women right now who would never see themselves as all that special (isn’t that just like a woman?) but actually have great stories to tell.

We would love you to get involved – send us stories about inspirational women in history, in fiction and above all in your own life
